Our Love Story
Updated: Jan 9, 2018
The Aimee and Spencer saga starts off like most romantic movies: a 300 square-foot living room (approximately 90°F), an ultra-packed dance floor, a few Coors Lights and a whole lotta’ liquid courage. Unfortunately, the dancing was interrupted by a girl from the Soccer team who felt it was necessary to shout “Spencer has a girlfriend, you shouldn’t dance with him". Make no mistake, the claim was absolutely false. That being said, Aimee did not believe Spencer and proceeded to throw pretzels at him from across the room. This was now going to be a war of attrition for Spencer, but anything worth having is worth fighting for!
Spencer knew Aimee as the overwhelmingly hot “Freshman Phenom” track star, while Aimee knew Spencer as the annoying basketball player who sat in the back of class and asked a lot of questions. I believe her exact words were, "Spencer kind of looks like a bear", so there did not seem to be an immediate attraction from her end, go figure. Putting looks, political opinion and preference of cats vs. dogs aside, Spencer and Aimee had two things working in their favor: they were slowly becoming great friends and always had classes together, giving them the ability to see each other almost daily even though they had grueling track/basketball schedules.
Make no mistake, Spencer did not want to just be friends. As any Millennial would do, he decided to send a Facebook message to let her know how he felt. Unfortunately, Aimee was not in a position to date anyone and only saw Spencer as a friend (the war of attrition continues). Although the outcome wasn’t what he had envisioned, he was hopeful. He knew that there was something special between the two of them…..Something you may only get once in a lifetime. If patience was the game, it was well-worth playing.
A few years had passed since their encounter on the dance floor, but the inevitable finally happened. A simple ice cream date (well, years of friendship really) led to moving to Sacramento, buying a house and ultimately a lifelong commitment between two best friends. This goofy, fun-loving couple could not be more excited for the future because they know they were born for each other.
Disclosure: Spencer and I wrote this together for our wedding website and I decided to save it and share to our blog. :) Also below is our engagement video shoot in our lovely home in Granite Bay! V
